The Construction and Property Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) recently released details of the new national construction training package, titled CPC08 Construction Training Package.
CPC20508 Certificate 2 in Stoneworking was developed as a result of consultation with stone industry employers and employees. While not a full trade qualification, it will recognise the contribution of labourers in the stone industry who assist tradesmen. CPC20508 Certificate 2 in Stoneworking provides a pathway to Certificate 3 level for industry entrants. Successful completion of CPC20508 Certificate 2 in Stoneworking requires 14 core units and 2 elective units.
CPC32308 Certificate 3 in Stonemasonry (Monumental / Installation) replaces the current BCF30600 Certificate 3 in Stonemasonry (Monumental / Installation) as the national trade qualification for stonemasonry (a licensed occupation). Successful completion of CPC32308 Certificate 3 in Stonemasonry (Monumental / Installation) requires 21 core units and 9 elective units.
The current stonemasonry qualification will be phased out over a two-year period beginning in March 2010. Some apprentices in training at this time will be transferred to the new qualification – those who will be able to finish within the two-year period will be allowed to do so without transferring.
CPSISC has set up an Improvement Register which will be used to “tweak” training specifications on an ongoing basis, instead of massively overhauling an existing system (which has occurred during the past five years). Industry consultation prior to the implementation date (March 2010) is critical to the success of training programs. Feedback about the structure and content of proposed training and assessment activities will be sought, initially using electronic media, and later at a series of face-to-face sessions. An all-day forum is planned for November 6th 2009 in Brisbane - more details are at this page: 2009 Stone Industry Forum
